Scared and Pissed at the Same Time: A Normal Set of Emotions for a Mother

Connor beats me home on school days. Usually. With no warning, however, he did not today.

Me: Hi, my son Connor is in seventh grade there. He didn't come home and I'm just wondering if there's an after-school activity he might be attending?
School Secretary: Connor... hmm, actually, yeah. Dark hair, it's longish kinda...
Me: Shaggy, yes, that's him.
SS: Yeah, I was up there earlier, and I think he's staying after school for the book group.
Me: Ah, okay. Thanks so much, I'll beat him when he gets home.
SS: Alrighty, have a good day.

Do they not get my need for my job to pay me?

We went to the bus stop this morning and waited. And waited. And waited. For the second time this school year, there was a school delay that I did not know about. Because I didn't bother to look for a delay. Because I assume that they have school when I don't even have to shovel the driveway at all. What, because it's cold??? It's WINTER, PEOPLE! It's SUPPOSED TO BE COLD.

Possibly, I'm more pissed about sitting at the bus stop for ten minutes then the whole actually having a delay... No, it's the delay. These people are ridiculous.

Kids, at least in our area, are encouraged to write organically. That is to say without pesticides. Or maybe it means that they write out words as they think they should be spelled, concentrating on getting their ideas on paper rather than worrying about spelling and sentence structure. (Those requirements happen, just at a time when it won't squash the creativity.) It certainly leads to interesting reading, and, if nothing else, trains you to read lolcats.

An excerpt from Emily's past writing:

Rabits look for food wen its trneyn n to wintr. rabts breng thet food in to ther borows. You fiynd them sumtiyms. Rabits are sumtiyms hormlis krechrs but rabits arret owes hormlis krechrs. Rabits are fiyn if you be kerfol. Duks. Duks fliy sawth for the wintr thay riley dount like the cold thay hayt the cold it is bad for them.

A question then presents itself. Exactly what must one avoid doing to keep those damn rabbits from going on a rampage?
